When I look at this old lighthouse, I think of the many hurricanes that have hit this beach over the last 100 years. Katrina pushed in a tidal surge 30 feet high on this very spot. Hundreds of beach front homes and restaurants vanished into the torrent and were swept back into the Gulf. Yet the lighthouse remained standing when it was over.
