Gauche’ Courtyard

In 1830 Jacques Gauche’ built his home with this magnificent courtyard in the 1300 block of Royal Street. He was an importer of fine China. 110 years later in 1940 a photographer came to New Orleans and couldn’t find any books of photography featuring the old buildings of the French Quarter, so decided to do one. All of the photos were of course in black and white. I bought the book decades later and was inspired by one particular photograph of the Gauche’ Courtyard.
